Baldev Sandhu M.D. is a 1979 graduate of the Glasgow University School of Medicine in Scotland, one of the oldest established medical schools in the world. Dr Sandhu came to New York for training in surgery and subsequently completed a fellowship in plastic surgery at Case Western Reserve University, one of the most prestigious plastic surgery training programs in the United States. He went on to undertake additional training in pediatric plastic surgery with Professor James Lehman and was subsequently assistant professor of Plastic Surgery at The Medical College of Virginia which is located in Richmond.

Baldev Sandhu, MD

Dr Sandhu is a 1996 diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery in and was
elected a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2000 and is a member
of the NJ Society of Plastic Surgeons.

He has lectured internationally on liposuction and body contouring surgery as well as non-surgical facial rejuvenation. He is also the author of the best selling book "Doctor, Is Liposuction right for me?"

He is an attending surgeon at Hoboken University Medical Center, Meadowland Medical Center and Englewood Hospital where he performs most surgical procedures. In addition to his interest in surgical contouring of the body and breast he also has an interest in non-surgical body shaping and is the author of the book "Doctor, How Do I Lose Weight?" His commitment to natural appearing surgical results and minimal scar surgery has led to him being an advocate of trans-umbilical breast augmentation (TUBA) which results in natural appearing breast enlargement without visible scars. While he is not an advocate of fat grafting for breast enlargement he is very active in the use of fat grafting and stem cell enhancement of fat cell grafting for facial rejuvenation. This approach is more permanent and may give better results than using Botox and facial fillers alone.

The Doctor Offers:

Breast Surgery
Breast surgery includes breast augmentation, breast implants, breast lift, breast enlargement, breast reduction, and post-masectomy breast reconstruction or male breast reduction for gynecomastia. Women with small or underdeveloped breasts who wish to enhance their appearance may choose to have a plastic surgery procedure called breast augmentation or mammoplasty. Women interested in moderate enhancement may choose to augment or enlarge their breasts with an implant. There are currently two FDA approved breast implants to choose from for plastic surgery: implants that are filled with saline or salt-water are now being used for cosmetic surgery breast augmentation procedures.

Dr. Sandhu will work with you to select a saline implant correct for your body size and lifestyle. He will review with you the operation and risks, and spend time to answer all of your questions about cosmetic surgery. Typically Dr. Sandhu will use 3/4 inch incisions for placement of the implant so that the scar is minimized and barely detectable. These small incisions may be made in the crease under the breast or at the edge of the areola. The implant or breast enlargement may be placed under or over the pectoral muscle. The implant is then filled with saline to achieve the desired size and shape of the breast. There are advantages and disadvantages to each implant and they vary from patient to patient.

Dr. Sandhu performs surgery under the private supervision of a board certified anesthesiologist and takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete. Most patients can return to work within 5-6 days following surgery. Sutures are underneath the skin and do not require removal and we generally recommend a sports style frontal-closure bra. Exercise and other strenuous activities may be resumed in about two weeks.

Breast Enlargement (Augmentation Mammaplasty)
Enhance the size of breasts using inflatable implants filled with saline.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Raise and reshape sagging breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning remaining tissue and nipples.

Body Contouring Surgery
Both tumescent and ultrasonic liposuction procedures can be performed. Liposuction of all body areas to reduce size and shape are performed. "Tummy-tuck", buttock-lift and buttock reshaping procedures are also performed.

Facial Surgery

Face-lifts (Rhytidectomy)
Improving sagging facial skin, jowls, and loose neck skin by removing excess fat, tightening muscles, redraping skin. This procedure is most often done on men and women over 40.

Brow-Lifts
Minimize forehead creases, drooping eyebrows, hooding over eyes, furrowed forehead and frown lines by removing excess tissue, altering muscles and tightening the forehead skin. This procedure can be done using the traditional technique, with an incision across the top of the head just behind the hairline; or with the use of an endoscope, which requires 3 to 5 short incisions. It is most often done on people over 40.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Correct drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below the eyes by removing excess fat, skin, and muscle. (Upper-eyelid surgery may be covered by insurance if used to correct visual field defects)

Rhinoplasty
A reshaping of the nose by reducing or increasing size, removing hump, changing shape of tip or bridge, narrowing span of nostrils, or changing angle between nose and upper lip. This procedure may also relieve some breathing problems. (This procedure may be covered by insurance.)

Chin Surgery
This procedure changes the profile and size of the chin (also called genioplasty).

Ask About these Plastic Surgery procedures:

Chemical Peel (Phenol and trichloroacetic acid [TCA])
Restore wrinkled, blemished, unevenly pigmented, or sun-damaged facial skin, using a chemical solution to peel away skin's top layers. Works best on fair, thin skin with superficial wrinkles.

Collagen Injections/ Fat Injections
Plump up creased, furrowed, or sunken facial skin; add fullness to lips and backs of hands. Works best on thin, dry, light-colored skin.

Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a mechanical scraping of the top layers of skin using a high-speed rotary wheel. This procedure softens sharp edges of surface irregularities, including acne and other scars and fine wrinkles, especially around the mouth.

Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)
Set prominent ears back closer to the head, or reduce the size of large ears.

Facial Implants
Change the basic shape and balance of the face using carefully shaped implants to build up a receding chin, add prominence to cheekbones, or reshape the jawline.

Hair Replacement Surgery
This procedure fills in balding areas with a patient's own hair using a variety of techniques including scalp reduction, tissue expansion, strip grafts, scalp flaps, or clusters of punch grafts (plugs, miniplugs and microplugs). Works best on men with male pattern baldness after hair loss has stopped.

Laser Facial Resurfacing
Laser Facial Resurfacing smoothes fine wrinkles using a carbon dioxide laser device that treats layers of damaged skin. It also softens lines around the eyes and mouth and minimizes facial scars and unevenly pigmented areas.

Liposuction (Suction-Assisted Lipectomy)
Liposuction improves body shape by removing exercise-resistant fat deposits with a tube and vacuum device. Can be performed using the tumescent technique, in which targeted fat cells are infused with saline containing solution with a local anesthetic before liposuction to reduce post-operative bruising and swelling. Common locations for liposuction include chin, cheeks, neck, upper arms, above breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, ankles. For larger volumes of fat or for fibrous body areas, ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL) may be used. UAL is a new technique in which an ultrasound probe is inserted beneath the skin to "liquefy" the fat before it is suctioned.

Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia)
This procedure can reduce enlarged, female-like breasts in men using liposuction and/or cutting out excess glandular tissue.
